Heavy-Gauge Steel & Porcelain-Enameled Firebox

Heavy-Gauge Steel & Porcelain-Enameled Firebox

We built this charcoal grill around a porcelain-enameled firebox that resists rust, chips, and heat damage season after season. The heavy-gauge steel frame keeps the entire structure rigid even when loaded with a full charcoal basket and heavy cast-iron cookware.

Porcelain enamel also reflects radiant heat back toward the cooking surface, improving fuel efficiency and creating even temperature distribution across the grate. That same steel construction found in our gas grill lineup carries over to every model we manufacture, ensuring consistent quality whether you prefer charcoal or propane. The firebox retains heat for hours, so you can run low-and-slow cooks without constantly refueling.

Adjustable Charcoal Tray for Dual-Zone Cooking

Adjustable Charcoal Tray for Dual-Zone Cooking

The crank-operated charcoal tray moves up and down inside the firebox, letting you shift between high-heat searing and gentle indirect roasting without rebuilding your coal bed. Raise the tray close to the grates when you want a hard sear on steaks or burgers; lower it when smoking ribs or whole chickens.

Banking Coals for Indirect Heat

Push all your lit coals to one side of the tray, then place food on the opposite side of the grate for true indirect cooking. This setup mimics a smoker’s convection environment and prevents flare-ups when rendering fat from pork shoulder or brisket. The dual top and bottom dampers let you fine-tune oxygen flow, so you can hold 225°F for hours or crank it up to 500°F+ for pizza and flatbreads.

Cooking Area & Grate Configuration

Cooking Area & Grate Configuration

The main cooking grate spans 432 square inches of chrome-plated steel, with an additional 144 square inches on the warming rack above. That’s enough room for 24 burger patties or six full racks of ribs laid flat.

Chrome plating resists rust better than raw steel and releases food more easily than bare cast iron, though we still recommend a light oil coat before each cook. The grates lift out in seconds for cleaning or rearranging, and the spacing is tight enough to prevent smaller vegetables from falling through. If you want to add a cast-iron grate or griddle insert, the firebox dimensions accept most aftermarket accessories up to 22 inches wide.

Best charcoal grill I've owned
I've been grilling on this for six months and the heat control is phenomenal. The adjustable tray lets me sear steaks at 600°F, then drop it down for low-and-slow ribs the same afternoon. Cleanup is a breeze with the ash pan.

Solid construction, even heat
We cook for family gatherings every weekend and this grill has plenty of room. The porcelain firebox hasn't chipped or rusted despite sitting outside year-round under a cover. Temperature stays consistent across the entire grate.

Great value for the build quality
Assembly took me about 90 minutes by myself. Once together, it feels rock solid. The only thing I'd change is adding a second thermometer on the opposite side of the lid for better temp monitoring in indirect zones.

Perfect for competition-style cooks
I run 12-hour brisket cooks on this grill without babysitting it. The front charcoal door makes refueling easy, and the dual dampers give me tight control over airflow. Temps hold steady within 10 degrees once dialed in.

Flavor beats gas every time
Switched from a propane grill last year and I'll never go back. The smoke flavor you get from real charcoal is incomparable. This Dyna-Glo model is built heavy enough that wind doesn't mess with my temps, even on the patio.

Huge cooking area, easy cleanup
We grill for block parties and this thing handles 20+ burgers at once with room to spare. The removable ash pan saves so much time—just slide it out and dump. Only wish the side shelves folded down for easier storage.

Common Questions About Your Dyna-Glo Charcoal Grill

The adjustable charcoal tray holds approximately 10–12 pounds of briquettes or lump charcoal when filled to capacity. For low-and-slow cooks, you'll typically use 6–8 pounds and refuel through the front access door as needed.

A full load of charcoal at maximum airflow will sustain high-heat grilling (500°F+) for 2–3 hours. For indirect smoking at 225–250°F, expect 4–6 hours per load with minimal refueling.

Both lump charcoal and briquettes work perfectly in this grill. Lump charcoal burns hotter and cleaner with less ash, making it ideal for high-heat searing. Briquettes provide more consistent, longer-lasting heat for extended cooks like brisket or pork shoulder.

The adjustable tray accommodates either fuel type, and the ash pan is sized to handle the higher ash volume from briquettes without mid-cook removal.

The grill ships partially assembled with the firebox and major components pre-fitted at the factory. You'll attach the legs, side shelves, lid, and charcoal tray using the included hardware. Most customers complete assembly in 60–90 minutes with basic hand tools.

The instruction manual includes labeled diagrams and a torque spec chart to prevent over-tightening bolts on porcelain-coated panels. All fasteners and a hex-key tool are included in the box.

Temperature control comes from three inputs: charcoal quantity, damper settings, and tray height. More charcoal and open dampers raise the temperature; fewer coals and closed dampers lower it. Raising the adjustable tray brings coals closer to the grates for direct high heat, while lowering it creates space for convection-style indirect cooking.

The built-in lid thermometer gives you real-time feedback. For precision smoking, we recommend adding a dual-probe digital thermometer to monitor both grate-level temperature and internal meat temp simultaneously.

Direct heat means food sits directly above lit coals—ideal for searing steaks, burgers, and anything that cooks in under 20 minutes. Indirect heat places food to the side of the coal bed, using convection to roast or smoke without direct flame contact.

To set up indirect zones, bank all your charcoal on one side of the adjustable tray and cook on the opposite side of the grate. The 576 square inches of cooking space gives you room to run both zones simultaneously—sear on one side while slow-cooking on the other.

While the grill is still warm (but not blazing hot), use a stiff wire brush to scrape the grates. The chrome plating releases stuck-on food more easily than bare steel, especially if you oil the grates lightly before each cook.

For deep cleaning, remove the grates and soak them in warm soapy water for 20 minutes, then scrub with a nylon pad. Avoid harsh abrasives that can strip the chrome plating. Re-season with a thin coat of high-heat cooking oil before reinstalling.

The Dyna-Glo charcoal grill does not include factory mounting points for a rotisserie spit, but aftermarket universal rotisserie kits designed for 22-inch kettle grills will fit if you clamp them to the side shelves or firebox lip. Check that the motor bracket clears the lid hinge before purchasing.

For rotisserie-style cooking without a motor, you can use the indirect heat method with a drip pan under the meat and rotate quarters manually every 20–30 minutes for even browning.
