Dyna-Glo Dual Zone Premium Charcoal Grill

★★★★★4.8/5· thousands of reviews

We designed the Dyna-Glo Dual Zone Premium Charcoal Grill for the outdoor cook who demands complete control over every inch of cooking space. This premium charcoal grill divides your grilling surface into two fully independent zones, each with its own adjustable charcoal tray that cranks up or down to manage heat precisely.

The heavy-duty steel construction gives you 816 square inches of total cooking area—enough room to sear steaks over direct high heat on one side while slow-roasting a whole chicken on the other. Our porcelain-enameled steel charcoal trays slide vertically, so you control distance between coals and grates with mechanical precision instead of guesswork. The dual-door ash drawer system makes cleanout fast, and the six-position grate adjustments let you fine-tune cooking height for each zone. Whether you're feeding a family or hosting a backyard cookout, this grill adapts to your menu.

Dual Zone Temperature Control

Dual Zone Temperature Control

The defining feature of this Dyna-Glo dual zone premium charcoal grill is its ability to run two separate cooking environments at once. Each zone has its own charcoal tray suspended on a crank mechanism—turn the handle clockwise to lower the coals closer to the grates for searing heat, counterclockwise to raise them away for gentler indirect cooking.

This vertical adjustment gives you infinite heat settings between the lowest and highest positions. On the left side, you can pile coals high and crank the tray up to within four inches of the grates for 600°F+ direct heat. On the right, spread a thinner coal bed and drop the tray to the lowest position for 225–250°F smoking temperatures. The steel divider panel between zones prevents airflow mixing, so heat stays where you set it. We’ve found this design especially useful when grilling a variety of foods simultaneously—shrimp and peppers over high heat while a pork shoulder finishes low and slow.

Materials & Construction

Materials & Construction

We built the body from heavy-gauge steel finished with a porcelain enamel coating that resists rust, chips, and heat discoloration. The dual charcoal trays are also porcelain-enameled steel, so they clean easily and won’t warp under repeated high-heat cycles.

Cast Iron Cooking Grates

The primary cooking grates are cast iron—heavier than chrome-plated steel and better at holding heat for sear marks. Cast iron does require seasoning and occasional light oiling to prevent rust, but the heat retention and even surface temperature make it our preferred grate material. Each grate section adjusts independently across six height positions, letting you raise or lower food relative to the coals without touching the charcoal trays. The warming rack above adds 228 square inches of secondary space for buns, vegetables, or resting meat.

Dimensions & Assembly

Dimensions & Assembly

Assembled dimensions are approximately 64 inches wide, 28 inches deep, and 50 inches tall including the lid. The primary cooking surface measures 588 square inches total (294 per zone), with the warming rack adding another 228.

The grill ships in one carton with all hardware and illustrated instructions. Assembly typically takes 60–90 minutes with basic hand tools (screwdriver, adjustable wrench). The steel cart frame bolts together first, then you attach the grill body, charcoal trays, crank assemblies, and side shelves. Two people make the process easier when lifting the body onto the cart. Once assembled, the unit weighs roughly 120 pounds. Four casters—two locking, two swivel—let you roll the grill across a deck or patio and lock it in place.

Total control over both zones
I've been using this grill every weekend for three months now. The crank-adjustable charcoal trays make it so easy to dial in the exact heat I need on each side. I ran brisket on one zone at 250°F for six hours while grilling burgers and corn on the other at high heat. Both zones held steady temps with minimal fiddling.

Built like a tank
This thing is heavy and solid. The porcelain coating looks great and cleanup is easy—I just wipe down the inside after it cools. Cast iron grates give perfect sear marks. Assembly took me about an hour and a half working solo, but the instructions were clear.

Perfect for mixed menus
We host a lot of cookouts, and this grill lets me do everything at once. Steaks on one side, chicken thighs on the other at lower heat so they don't burn. The ash drawers are a nice touch—way easier than dealing with a single pan. Only wish the lid thermometer was more accurate, but I use my own probe anyway.

Finally upgraded from my old kettle
I was skeptical about switching from my kettle grill, but the dual zones sold me. Now I can set up a two-zone fire without rearranging coals mid-cook. The crank adjustment is genius—I can raise or lower heat in seconds. The side shelf and front table give me actual workspace, which my old grill didn't have.

Great for smoking and grilling
I use one zone for a charcoal snake setup and keep the other side ready for direct heat when I need to finish something with a sear. The divider panel really does keep the zones separate—my smoking side stays at 225°F while the other side runs 500°F+. Highly recommend if you want flexibility.

Solid grill, big footprint
This is a serious piece of equipment. Make sure you have the deck or patio space—it's wider than I expected from the photos. The cooking area is huge, which is great for feeding a crowd. The casters roll smoothly even when the grill is fully loaded. Build quality is excellent; I expect this to last years.

Common Questions About the Dual Zone Premium Grill

Yes, the dual zone design makes this grill well-suited for smoking. Set up your charcoal in one zone only, crank that tray to the lowest position, and close the intake vent halfway to hold temperatures in the 225–250°F range. Place your meat on the opposite (unlit) zone for indirect heat. The built-in warming rack also works as a secondary smoking surface.

For longer smokes, you can run a charcoal snake or minion method in one zone to extend burn time without refueling. The divider panel between zones helps maintain steady low temperatures by preventing excess airflow from the empty side.

Each charcoal tray holds approximately 8–10 pounds of lump charcoal or 12–15 briquettes arranged in a single layer. For high-heat grilling, we recommend filling the tray about three-quarters full and cranking it up close to the grates. For low-and-slow cooking, a lighter charcoal bed spread evenly with the tray lowered works best.

Because the two zones are independent, you can load one side heavily for searing and leave the other side empty or lightly filled for indirect cooking. Total fuel capacity for both zones together is around 20–25 pounds if you're running a full two-zone setup.

We back the Dyna-Glo Dual Zone Premium Charcoal Grill with a limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The steel body and charcoal trays carry a one-year warranty from the date of purchase. Grates, hardware, and other components are covered for 90 days.

The warranty does not cover normal wear from use, rust caused by lack of maintenance, or damage from improper assembly. Keep your purchase receipt and register your grill on our website to activate coverage. For warranty claims or service questions, contact our customer support team with your model and serial number.

Yes, we recommend seasoning the cast iron grates before your first cook. Wash the grates with warm soapy water to remove any manufacturing residue, then dry them completely. Coat all surfaces lightly with high-smoke-point cooking oil (vegetable, canola, or grapeseed), then heat the grill to medium-high for 30–40 minutes to bake the oil into the iron.

After each use, brush the grates while still warm and apply a thin oil coating to prevent rust. Properly seasoned cast iron develops a natural nonstick patina over time and delivers better heat retention than chrome-plated grates.

No, the Dyna-Glo Dual Zone Premium Charcoal Grill is designed exclusively for charcoal fuel and cannot be converted to gas. The adjustable charcoal trays, ash drawers, and vent system are engineered specifically for managing live coals and wood smoke.

If you prefer gas convenience, we offer a separate line of propane and natural gas grills. However, many outdoor cooks choose charcoal for the authentic smoke flavor and the precise heat control that live coals and wood chunks provide.

Consistent airflow starts with emptying the ash drawers regularly—accumulated ash blocks oxygen intake and makes temperature control difficult. Before each cook, remove old ash and check that the bottom vents open and close freely.

During cooking, adjust the front intake vents to control how much air feeds the coals, and use the chimney damper to regulate exhaust. For high heat, open all vents fully. For low-and-slow smoking, close the intake vents to about one-quarter open and set the chimney damper to match. Small adjustments (quarter-turn increments) work best—charcoal responds slowly, so give each change 10–15 minutes before adjusting again.

We recommend starting with a chimney charcoal starter for fast, even coal lighting without lighter fluid. A long-handled grill brush keeps the cast iron grates clean, and a digital probe thermometer gives you accurate grate-level temperature readings in each zone.

A fitted grill cover protects the porcelain finish from UV and weather when the grill is not in use. For expanded cooking options, consider a cast iron griddle insert that sits directly on the grates for breakfast items, or a rib rack to maximize vertical space when smoking multiple racks at once.
