Dyna-Glo Grill Heat Plates & Shields

★★★★★4.8/5· thousands of reviews

Our stainless steel heat plates sit directly above your burners to shield them from grease drippings while distributing heat evenly across the cooking surface. Each plate is precision-cut to fit Dyna-Glo gas grill models, with reinforced edges that resist warping even after hundreds of cook sessions.

These plates replace worn factory shields and restore your grill's original heat distribution. The gauge steel construction withstands direct flame contact and high-temperature cycling without buckling.

Heat Plate Function & Burner Protection

Heat Plate Function & Burner Protection

Dyna-Glo grill heat plates create a protective barrier between your cooking grates and the burner tubes below. When grease and marinade drip during cooking, the plates intercept those liquids before they reach the flame ports where they could cause clogs or corrosion. This simple mechanical barrier extends burner life by years.

The plates also serve a flavor function: drippings that hit the hot steel surface vaporize instantly, creating the smoke that gives grilled food its characteristic taste. Without heat plates, those same drippings would simply fall through to the bottom of the firebox and collect as waste. Our design balances protection with controlled vaporization.

Material Composition & Durability

Material Composition & Durability

We manufacture our stainless heat plates from 304-grade steel, which contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel for superior corrosion resistance. This alloy maintains structural integrity through repeated heating and cooling cycles without developing the stress cracks that appear in lower-grade metals.

The porcelain-coated shields start with 18-gauge cold-rolled steel as the substrate. We apply the enamel coating in a high-temperature fusion process that bonds the glass-ceramic layer directly to the metal surface. The result is a finish that won’t chip or flake like paint-based coatings.

Installation & Grill Compatibility

Installation & Grill Compatibility

All Dyna-Glo heat plates install without tools. Lift out your existing grates and remove the old shields by sliding them forward off their support brackets. The new plates drop into the same channels and rest on the existing frame inside your firebox. The entire swap takes less than five minutes.

Each plate set is cut to match specific Dyna-Glo model dimensions. Before ordering, check your grill’s model number on the rating plate inside the cabinet door. Three-burner models use three individual plates; four- and five-burner units include a corresponding number of pieces. Premium models with side burners or sear zones may require additional specialized shields.

Perfect fit, restored even heating
My original heat plates had warped so badly that I was getting hot spots on one side and barely any heat on the other. These dropped right in and my grill cooks like new again. I should have replaced them a year ago.

Stainless holds up better than porcelain
I had the porcelain-coated version on my last grill and they eventually chipped and rusted. Switched to stainless this time and after two seasons they still look great. Worth the extra cost for me.

Easy installation, no tools needed
I'm not handy at all but these literally just slide into place. Took me maybe three minutes to swap all four plates. Grill heats up faster now and the temperature stays more consistent.

Good quality, check your model number first
The plates themselves are solid and well-made. I initially ordered the wrong size because I guessed at my model number. Once I found the actual model plate inside the cabinet and reordered the right set, they fit perfectly.

Protects burners like they should
I was getting grease buildup in my burner tubes which kept clogging the ports. Since installing these heat plates I haven't had a single burner issue. They catch everything before it gets down there.

Heat distribution is noticeably better
We cook for a family of six and I was constantly rotating food around to avoid the cold spots. With these new plates the entire grill surface cooks evenly. Chicken breasts all finish at the same time now.

Heat Plate & Shield Questions

Replace heat plates when you notice visible warping, rust holes, or severe grease buildup that won't clean off. Stainless steel plates typically last 3-5 years with regular use and proper maintenance. Porcelain-coated versions usually need replacement every 2-4 years, especially if the enamel coating chips and exposes the steel underneath.

You'll know it's time when your grill develops persistent hot spots or when burners flame out unexpectedly due to grease dripping through damaged plates onto the gas ports.

We don't recommend using non-Dyna-Glo heat plates even if the dimensions appear similar. Our plates are engineered to specific tolerances that match the burner spacing, mounting bracket positions, and airflow requirements of Dyna-Glo fireboxes. Generic or universal-fit plates may not align properly with your burner tubes, creating heat voids or blocking critical ventilation paths.

Using incorrect plates can also void your grill warranty and create safety issues if gas flow patterns are disrupted.

Heat plates are flat or gently curved shields that sit directly above burners to protect them and distribute heat. Flame tamers are V-shaped or pyramid-shaped deflectors that scatter flame in multiple directions for indirect cooking zones. Both protect burners, but flame tamers create more pronounced hot and cool zones for techniques like rotisserie cooking or low-and-slow smoking.

Most Dyna-Glo gas grills use flat heat plates for direct grilling. Our charcoal and hybrid models sometimes include flame tamers for added versatility.

Yes, heat plates function identically regardless of fuel type. They sit above the burner tubes where gas has already been converted to flame, so the fuel source doesn't affect their performance. The same plate set works whether your grill runs on liquid propane tanks or a natural gas line connection.

Just make sure you're ordering the correct size for your specific Dyna-Glo model, not for your fuel type.

Porcelain-coated heat shields are dishwasher-safe and clean up well in a standard home appliance. Run them through a heavy-duty cycle with regular detergent. Stainless steel plates can technically go in the dishwasher but may develop water spots from hard water minerals—we recommend hand-washing them with dish soap and a non-abrasive scrub pad for better results.

Always let plates cool completely before washing, and dry them thoroughly before reinstalling to prevent any moisture from accumulating in your grill cabinet.

Fresh plates restore your grill's original preheat time, which typically ranges from 10-15 minutes depending on outside temperature and grill size. If your current plates are severely warped or corroded, they may be blocking heat flow or creating air gaps that allow heat to escape. Replacing them eliminates those inefficiencies.

You won't heat up faster than a brand-new grill, but you'll return to the performance level Dyna-Glo engineered into your model.

Check the model number on the rating plate inside your grill cabinet door or on the back of the control panel. Match that model number to our parts compatibility chart. If the rating plate is missing or illegible, measure your existing heat plates: length from front to back, width from side to side, and count how many individual plates your grill uses.

Dyna-Glo three-burner grills use three plates, four-burner units use four, and so on. Each burner gets its own dedicated plate for independent zone control.
